Bay Area Open Mics Event Link There has been an open mic happening at the corner of 16th and Mission for twenty-three years as of May 2026. Nikolas Larson draws the 8x10' chalk circle. Sometimes there are votive candles placed around the perimeter, like the performer at its center has been summoned magically from another realm. There is no predicting what you will see at this event. The organizers say, "Come scream at the void with us!! 16th & Mission is an outdoor, freeform street arts workshop, an 'open mic' without a mic welcoming poets, musicians, emcees, comedy...all forms of expression, in any language, representing SF's best tradition of free expression. On the southwest streetcorner by the BART station, amidst the pigeons, under the stars.
