Art Bae Event Link Alexandra Cicorschi: Gentleness @ MAG Galleries Join us for a conversation on art, healing, and breaking the silence around suicide. Artist Alexandra Cicorschi will be in conversation with Dale Djerassi, Founding Trustee of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program. The talk will be moderated by Emma Peat, Director of Education Programming at NAMI San Francisco (National Alliance on Mental Illness San Francisco). The artworks in the Gentleness exhibition were inspired by drawings made by the artist's mother, who died by suicide in 2011. This conversation will explore what role art has in healing, opening difficult conversations, and shifting how society understands and talks about difficult topics — whether by making work from a vulnerable place, or by supporting artists through spaces like the Djerassi Resident Artists Program. This will be an open conversation around grief, the stigma of suicide, and how we can build greater empathy around mental health. Founded in 1979, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program is one of the nation's leading multidisciplinary artist residencies, providing artists with uninterrupted time and space on 583 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The residency was founded in the memory of poet and painter Pamela Djerassi, Dale’s sister, who died by suicide in 1978. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals living with a mental health condition and their families. ―――――――――― SF Stuff To Do Do not edit this event! changes will be overwritten
