The Commons: Third Space (Hayes Valley) Event Link Being Here is a weekly gathering guided by Dharma Teacher Milo Burn, who has led multiple three-month silent retreats and teaches from a background primarily grounded in Zen and Theravada practice. The gathering is to celebrate silence and stillness, study, practice and realize Buddhist teachings, and dynamic inquiry into mindfulness, freedom, and compassion in daily life. So much of our lives are oriented toward becoming. Being Here offers a regular space to pause that momentum and explore what becomes possible when we give our attention to simply being here. Through meditation, heart teachings, and conversation, we practice bringing this quality of being into the rest of our lives. The emphasis is on direct experience rather than technique. Think: less following a recipe and more hanging out in your grandma’s kitchen! Come to practice, listen, ask questions, or spend time in a space devoted to being. 🕰 Flow / Schedule • 10:30 AM: Arrive and settle in • Brief sitting instruction • 35 minutes: Silent sitting meditation • 35 minutes: Dharma teachings from Milo, followed by question and response • 10 minutes: Closing and announcements • Stay afterward for informal conversation and connection, if you like 💫 Who This Is For • Open to Commons members and the wider community • People curious about meditation, Dharma, Buddhist teachings, mindfulness, or nonduality • Those beginning a practice and those with years of experience • Anyone looking for a place to deepen their practice in community • Anyone drawn to exploring how meditation and Dharma meet ordinary daily life 🤲 Participation Norms • RSVP on Luma or drop in • No formal membership or prior experience required • Questions, reflections, and inquiry are encouraged 🎒 What to Bring • Bring a zafu if you prefer this to the provided chairs and pillows 💛 Suggested Donation / Exchange Being Here is offered on a dana basis, as an expression of generosity and shared responsibility. Contribute according to your means and inspiration. 🏛 The Commons Being Here creates a weekly place at The Commons to practice being alongside becoming. It is part of the larger rhythm of rituals, relationships, and creative life that make The Commons a civic hearth for personal becoming and creative actualization in San Francisco. Membership sustains the space and makes this ongoing community life possible. If you feel drawn to being part of that rhythm, we welcome you to explore membership, with no pressure.
