Carlos Elliot Jr. at Biscuits and Blues brings Mississippi Hill Country blues to Mason Street, carried all the way from the coffee hills of Pereira, Colombia. Chasing the pure root of the music, Elliot traveled to Clarksdale to learn directly from originators including T‑Model Ford, Big Jack Johnson, Little Joe Ayers, and his mentor R.L. Boyce, finding a home at the legendary Red’s Lounge and joining The Cornlickers, the juke‑joint house band that once backed Big Jack Johnson. As the first artist to represent Colombia at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2014, he plays guitar and fife in the raw tradition of Otha Turner and Jessie Mae Hemphill, blending North Mississippi grooves with the Indigenous and African rhythms of his homeland—his “Blues de la montaña” has carried him from the Americas to Shanghai and Varanasi, and tonight it lands on Biscuits and Blues. Tickets: $20-50
