Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States by hearing about this initiative dedicated to highlighting the historical narratives of individuals and movements that contributed to the development of our nation using a unique, place-based augmented reality format.
51 Steps to Freedom provides a timely and engaging way for visitors to deepen their understanding of our nation’s past by following a walking trail through D.C. that fosters a deeper understanding of America’s shared history, and celebrates the core American ideals of liberty, opportunity and civic responsibility. This trail uncovers the history and legacies of various cultures and advocates whose voices, actions and sacrifices have played a pivotal role in shaping our country’s progress in the pursuit of a more unified society.
Join us to hear H.H. Leonards describe her project’s conception and fruition, and why she thinks evocatively reminding ourselves of these powerful moments of courage, resilience and ingenuity that made America the land of opportunity remains crucial to enhancing America’s promise of liberty for all.
