Commonwealth Club: How America Looks from Everywhere Else

What the world sees: Eight foreign correspondents on America, two weeks before the midterms. For two months, eight journalists from Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Finland, Hong Kong, India and Italy are travelling the United States as fellows of the World Press Institute; they’ll be visiting Minnesota, Iowa, Washington, New York, Texas, the Arizona border and California. They have sat in on the Associated Press’s global news meeting, watched an immigration court, spent a week in a town of 1,300 on Lake Superior, gone to the border at Nogales, and questioned editors, campaigners, pollsters and officials along the way.  Now, just over two weeks before Americans vote, they discuss what they have actually seen. This is the United States described by people who are about to go home and explain it to their audiences abroad.
