Galería de la Raza presents The AO Series – Part 3 of 3, celebrating the culmination of the ReGen Artist Fund Cohorts 1 & 2. Learn more about the project: Un Día A La Vez explores the immigrant and working-class experience through found materials and mixed media. Inspired by conversations and stories from construction workers, domestic workers, and street food vendors – this project brings visibility to the people and labor that often goes unnoticed. For this body of work, Cahueque spoke with six local street food vendors, documenting their stories, daily routines, and experiences. Their photographs and stories became the foundation for six terracotta grill paintings and a street food vendor cart made from cardboard. The resulting pieces reflect the physicality of labor while honoring the people behind it and inviting viewers to consider how labor gets seen, remembered, and valued.
