Caltrain offers easy access to San Francisco’s annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration. Visit the Caltrain Holiday Service page for complete holiday service information. Here are the regularly scheduled southbound Caltrain departures from San Francisco after the fireworks on July 4, 2026: 9:15 p.m. 9:45 p.m. 10:15 p.m. 10:45 p.m. 11:15 p.m. 11:49 p.m. 12:49 a.m. – Last southbound train from San Francisco Can you drink on Caltrain! Yes! (sort of) You can have an open container on the ride up to SF before the fireworks, but open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the trains beginning at 9 p.m. on special event days and nights. Muni | 2026 San Francisco’s annual Independence Day celebration takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. This year’s celebration also includes a historic fireworks display from the Golden Gate Bridge, in addition to the traditional barges near Pier 39, making public transit the easiest way to get to the waterfront. Muni will operate on a Saturday schedule with special fireworks shuttle service from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Two shuttle routes will connect Powell BART to the Marina District and Embarcadero BART to Pier 39, with additional outbound service after the fireworks to help crowds leave the waterfront. Large crowds are expected throughout the waterfront, Marina District, Crissy Field, and Fisherman’s Wharf. Expect heavy traffic, temporary street closures, Muni reroutes, and packed transit vehicles. SFMTA strongly recommends taking public transit, walking, biking, or using a taxi rather than driving, as parking will be extremely limited. 2026 Traffic Restrictions Expect significant traffic restrictions around San Francisco’s waterfront and the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The Golden Gate Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the fireworks display. In addition, US-101 in both directions will begin closing at 8 p.m., so anyone traveling between San Francisco and Marin County should plan to use alternate routes through the East Bay. Temporary street closures and traffic restrictions will also be in effect throughout the day: Jefferson Street between Hyde Street and The Embarcadero will be closed from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Streets in Fisherman’s Wharf and the Marina will be restricted to local access from approximately 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Only residents, hotel guests, and deliveries will be permitted on streets north of Bay, Alhambra, and Francisco streets, as well as Chestnut Street between Fillmore Street and Van Ness Avenue. Parking near the waterfront, Marina Green, Crissy Field, and other major viewing areas will be extremely limited and is expected to fill early. Visitors are strongly encouraged to take public transit, walk, or bike whenever possible. Muni Fireworks Shuttles 2026 Getting to the Fireworks (4 to 9:30 p.m.) Marina Shuttle Runs between Powell BART Station (Market & 5th Street) and the Marina District. Provides direct service to Marina Green and nearby Golden Gate Bridge fireworks viewing areas. Pier 39 Shuttle Runs between Embarcadero BART Station (Market & Main streets) and Pier 39. Provides direct service to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 for waterfront fireworks viewing. Leaving the Fireworks (After the Show Until Approximately 11:30 p.m.) Both shuttle routes will continue operating after the fireworks to help move crowds away from the waterfront: Marina Shuttle: Board in the Marina District for service back to Powell BART Station. Pier 39 Shuttle: Board near Pier 39 for service back to Embarcadero BART Station. Shuttles will operate continuously until approximately 11:30 p.m., or until crowds have cleared.…
