Le Jazu at The Deluxe features an eclectic Oakland‑based string quintet of seasoned Bay Area musicians bringing soulful vocals and vintage‑inspired swing to the Haight’s cozy listening room. While their instrumentation evokes 1930s French café groups, their collective background in manouche, blues, jazz, and soul gives the band a distinctive sound and feel. Drawing from 20th‑century greats like Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Bessie Smith, Duke Ellington, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra, as well as Django Reinhardt, New Orleans jazz, Latin masters such as Luis Bonfa and Consuelo Velázquez, and “outsiders” like Dan Hicks, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Bob Dylan, Le Jazu crafts a wide‑ranging, nostalgic yet fresh set that celebrates the Great American Songbook and beyond.
