Lewis Jordan & Music at Large bring a rare and powerful voice to Bird & Beckett — born in San Francisco and raised in Chicago with the blues, Jordan co-founded United Front, the seminal Bay Area ensemble celebrated for its originality and cultural synthesis, and has spent decades bridging music and the written word through saxophone, composition, and poetry. Rooted in the spirit of Ayler, Shepp, Ornette Coleman, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago — and infused with the philosophical depth of Krishnamurti and Rumi — the ensemble features Bruce Ackley on reeds, Sandra Poindexter on violin and voice, Ollen Erich Hunt on bass, and Jimmy Biala on drums and percussion, with Jordan leading on reeds and poetry for an evening of music that is as intellectually alive as it is deeply felt.
