Most people interviewed for the book have never been contacted by a candidate for federal office or a party of any flavor. In a digital world where the political class increasingly targets a relative few congressional districts in seven swing states, those interviewed were largely ignored by the Democrats, who electorally shrink to the coasts and scattered urban pockets of the country. The author brings voice to the coalition of the disconnected, from the Democratic Party, but from politics in general, through their stories, and opens up a discussion of what democracy means today.
