Manny’s: Low Key Lectures: What Is Environmental Justice?

The term “environmental justice” has grown in popularity over the past many decades, yet still it is misunderstood and too often ignored in mainstream discourse. What is the EJ movement? Where did it start? With the current Trump Administration and EPA as it stands, what dangers does the EJ movement face in 2026? And finally, where can we learn about environmental inequities in our community? Learn about all of this and more with Veronica Eady, a decades-long environmental justice advocate and the Executive Director of the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Projector (WOEIP). Veronica brings a lifetime of environmental justice advocacy and a passion for addressing environmental and health inequities in Black and brown neighborhoods. In her earlier role as the California Air Resources Board’s first Deputy Executive Officer for Environmental Justice, Veronica served as one of the original architects of the groundbreaking AB 617 program, laying the groundwork for the West Oakland Community Action Plan. A resident of West Oakland and a seasoned environmental lawyer and law professor, Veronica has crafted policy and implemented programs in partnership with affected communities on every level from local to international.
