Can local government work more like Burning Man?
Caveat Magister, Burning Man’s Philosopher Laureate, and Tom Radulovich of Livable City and a former BART board member have had an ongoing dialogue about whether “psychomagic” can be used to grow civic engagement and participatory government. But how would that work? Is Burning Man a good example? On August 6, at Manny’s, they continue this dialogue in public, discussing the promise, potential, and unanswered questions about using art and psychomagical techniques for better governance.
Caveat is the author of “Turn Your Life Into Art: lessons in psychomagic from San Francisco’s underground,” and “The Scene That Became Cities: what Burning Man philosophy teaches us about building better communities.” Tom is a former member of BART’s Board of Directors, and current Senior Policy Fellow at Livable Cities.
