Exploring the intersections of memory, identity, and cultural inheritance, Vora's work reflects on the passage of time and the enduring influence of personal and collective histories. At the opening reception on November 7th, Sanjay will perform a set of Indian-Americana folk songs under his musical moniker, Full Indian. The performance will take place among his paintings featuring Hindustani classical maestros Suhail Yusuf Khan on sarangi and Amod Dandawate on tabla. **Limited Seating for this event. Rooted in an upbringing shaped by both American culture and North Indian Classical music, Vora’s practice draws upon the complexities of belonging, displacement, and the traditions that shape our understanding of self. Sanjay Vora is an Indian-American visual artist, musician, curator, and educator whose multidisciplinary practice explores memory, identity, ritual, and cultural inheritance. His paintings unfold as dreamlike, cinematic reflections of lived experience, where familiar domestic scenes and fragments of memory emerge through layers of abstraction. Balancing intimacy with a sense of longing, these compositions evoke the delicate space between what is remembered, what is imagined, and what remains just beyond reach. Central to Vora’s process is the physical accumulation and excavation of material, creating translucent, textured surfaces that simultaneously reveal and obscure the imagery beneath. This layered approach mirrors the elusive nature of memory itself, as moments of clarity emerge from beneath veils of color and texture. Through this interplay of concealment and revelation, Vora considers the impermanence of experience and the weight of inherited identity. A Sea of Time and Space invites viewers into a contemplative space where past and present converge. Through reflections on memory, cultural inheritance, and the search for belonging, Vora’s paintings consider how personal and collective histories shape our understanding of ourselves and our connections to the world around us.\ Link to Sanjay Vora full Exhibition location provided by event source: "49 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA" ―――――――――― SF Stuff To Do
