Mission Street: San Francisco Lowrider Council 45th Anniversary Celebration

The San Francisco Lowrider Council, in partnership with the City of San Francisco, the Mission Merchants Association, and the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, proudly presents the 2nd Annual Lowrider Parade on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in the historic Mission District. King of the Streets, the long-running hopping competition, will return as part of the celebration. This year’s celebration carries special significance as the San Francisco Lowrider Council marks its 45th anniversary. To honor more than four decades of culture, artistry and resistance, the Council is partnering with the Mission Cultural Center to host a special anniversary art exhibit showcasing the rich history, photography, and evolution of the lowrider movement. As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15, 2026), this signature cultural celebration brings together lowrider clubs, artists, families, local businesses, and visitors from across the country to celebrate the creativity, resilience, and cultural legacy of the Latino community. A Cruise with a Purpose Produced by the San Francisco Lowrider Council and Cultura y Arte Nativa de Las Américas (CANA), the event is more than a parade — it is a Cruise with a Purpose. The celebration highlights lowriding as a powerful form of artistic expression, cultural identity, and community pride, while supporting Mission District small businesses, local artists, and ongoing cultural preservation efforts. Local businesses will once again participate in the celebration with Lowrider-inspired food and cultural offerings that reflect the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the neighborhood. The Thrill of the Hop & The Canvas of the Culture The “King of the Streets” Hopping Competition returns with top lowriders from across the nation competing in a dynamic showcase of craftsmanship, innovation, and hydraulic performance. Competitors will vie for championship titles and cash prizes, while audiences experience one of the most electrifying expressions of lowrider culture. At the same time, the celebration expands from the streets to the gallery. The 45th Anniversary Exhibit at the Mission Cultural Center will offer attendees a deeper visual look at the Council’s roots in the Mission District. Featuring archival media, historic photographs, and fine art pieces, the exhibit highlights how lowriding evolved from a neighborhood subculture into a globally recognized fine art form.
