SF Art Galleries - Openings & Events Event source calendar Event Link: see venue calendar above ^^ Work by Nicole Shaffer, Vanessa Woods, and University of California, Berkeley student Yiming Clara The Artist in Residence Program (AIR) at Recology San Francisco is thrilled to announce exhibition dates for current artists-in-residence Nicole Shaffer, Vanessa Woods, and University of California, Berkeley student Yiming Clara. Friday, September 18, 2026 from 5 – 8 PM Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 12 – 3 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 5 – 7:30 PM with artist talk by Yiming Clara at 6 PM (401 Tunnel), Vanessa Woods at 6:30 PM (503 Tunnel), and Nicole Shaffer at 7 PM (503 Tunnel). Admission is free and open to the public, no reservation required. All ages are welcome and the site is wheelchair accessible. Location Recology Art Studios 503 and 401 Tunnel Avenue, San Francisco Photo by: Hadley Raysor Nicole Shaffer To the Moon and Back Written by Weston Teruya Over the course of their practice, Nicole Shaffer has created works that explore the histories of institutional spaces and the experiences of people who have often been overlooked or marginalized, including queer and trans people, people with disabilities, and neurodiverse communities. Inspired by historical horticultural studies and the role of gardens and landscapes within institutional settings, Shaffer reflects on how these environments have shaped human experience. Their ongoing series of sculptures reimagines these spaces as places of connection, belonging, and restoration. Each piece is an exuberantly crafted, speculative garden feature, inviting reflection, gathering, and rest. Read more Vanessa Woods Generations Written by Weston Teruya In Generations, Vanessa Woods opens up her studio process, revealing her voraciously generative approach to iterating ideas and forms. In installations through the gallery, she presents sculptural tableaus alongside photographs that capture and frame elements of those arrangements, even as they are then altered and inserted within those sets to appear in yet other photographs. Read more Yiming Clara Looking for Sculpture Written by Weston Teruya Beyond any set of discrete objects, Yiming Clara’s Looking for Sculpture is a social environment: she presents the conditions for connection with the audience, between materials, and across languages. In it, we are asked to consider the artist’s experience of being in-residence, reflecting on not just finished artworks, or even the labor of materiality and craft, but the expansiveness of everyday life in the studio, and the questions that compelled her conceptual process. For the exhibition text, she proposed an interview with a single premise: no questions allowed on any works of art.
