Black Bird Bookstore & Cafe (Outer Sunset) Event Link: see venue calendar above ^^ Saturday Storytime at Black Bird is free and open to all ages. No ticket or RSVP required. Just show up and you will be glad you did. We host the event in our lovely back garden amidst the plants and trees. Children have space to move their bodies and adults have space to relax and meet other families. If it is raining, we bring the fun inside and upstairs to our cozy kids loft. Generally, Storytime is oriented toward newborns - 6 years old, with authors, storytellers, musicians and educators rotating through the monthly calendar but we do welcome all ages with open arms (and books!). This week we are hosting... Michelle Sterling and Carren Jao Michelle Sterling is an author, photographer and speech-language pathologist whose picture books include When Lola Visits, A Sweet New Year for Ren, Maribel’s Year and Riding Through Rice Fields. Many of her stories are inspired by her heritage, family traditions and her love of gastronomy and food history. She lives in Southern California with her family. Riding Through Rice Fields On a trip to the Philippines, Mateo and his father embark on an epic bicycle trip to his father’s childhood home. Riding Through Rice Fields captures how a trip home reminds us of who we are. Carren Jao is an award-winning Chinese Filipina storyteller born and raised in the Philippines. A longtime Angeleno and now a Seattle resident, she wrote The Shape of Love inspired by the distinct smell of freshly opened balikbayan boxes and the happy memories of digging through these cardboard treasure chests. Find her online at carrenjao.com. The Shape of Love In this heartfelt ode to balikbayan boxes, a mom working in Los Angeles packs a large box full of special gifts and household items to send to her family living in the Philippines as a thoughtful act of connection between family. location provided by event source: "4541 Irving St, San Francisco, CA 94122" ―――――――――― SF Stuff To Do
