Black Cat presents a rare convergence of two major voices in modern jazz, each shaped by the towering legacy of John Coltrane yet speaking in distinct musical languages of their own. Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Wayne Escoffery brings a sound critics have called a “contemporary mix of Coltrane, Shorter and Henderson influences,” powerful, passionate, and unmistakably his own.  Sharing the stage is Miami-based pianist Tal Cohen, also a Grammy-winning artist whose playing weaves folk melodies and classical influence into deeply personal, modern jazz harmony. Together, Escoffery and Cohen trace two divergent paths from a shared source, a saxophonist whose sound channels Coltrane’s fire, and a pianist whose harmonic palette reflects Coltrane’s restless search for new musical languages. Band Lineup: Wayne Escoffery, Tenor Saxophone Tal Cohen, Piano Giulio Xavier Cetto, Bass Malachi Whitson, Drums
