From epic poems to Bollywood films and beyond, the stories of Hindu gods and goddesses have traveled across centuries and cultures. But how have these myths been adapted and reimagined through modern media? In this lecture, Vamsee Juluri, Professor of Media Studies at the University of San Francisco, explores the world of “mythological” cinema, drawing on his research and personal experiences growing up in a film family. He’ll show how these stories blend entertainment with deeper questions about culture, ethics, and identity. More than just stories, these films offer a powerful lens into how traditions evolve and continue to shape the modern world. 🎥✨ 📵 A No-Phone Lecture 📵 This event is a special one: we are asking attendees not to use their phones during the duration of the event (7-9pm). After you check in, we will ask you to turn your phone off and slip it into an envelope provided at the door. We won’t take your phone or lock it away, but the goal is to create a space where we can all be present together, listening and thinking without distractions.
