The Orphans

When

Offbeat SF
The Orphans perform at the Saloon. Jon Lawton is one of the best Folk, Blues, Americana singer/songwriters you’ve never heard of. He has been writing, recording and performing for decades. Jon plays an always interesting blend of original and traditional blues, country and folk music. Big Bill Broonzy, Brownie McGhee, John Lee Hooker, Hank Snow, Steve Earle, Pete Seeger, and Merle Haggard are significant influences for him. During his show Jon will rotate from National Steel, 12-string, 6-string guitars and banjo. Jon’s old-style guitar (and banjo!) technique, plaintively conversational vocal style and dynamic ability to move seamlessly through rags, stomps, and his own observational tunes have marked him as a modern songster who makes tradition come alive every time he performs. Mike Phillips – Bass Jon Lawton – Guitar/Vocals Scotty Griffin – Drums
