Readers of Content,
We’re excited to announce a special evening long in the works, our first Tables of Contents In Translation. Join us on November 9th at Little Egg for an intimate reading with translators Kimi Traube (Don Quixote) and Katrina Dodson (The Complete Stories by Clarice Lispector), followed by a Q+A moderated by Megan McDowell.
Katrina Dodson is the translator of The Complete Stories, by Clarice Lispector (New Directions, 2015), winner of the PEN Translation Prize and other awards. Her translation of Mário de Andrade's 1928 Brazilian modernist classic, Macunaíma: The Hero With No Character was published by New Directions in 2023. Her writing has appeared in The Believer, McSweeney’s, The Paris Review, and elsewhere. Dodson holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and is an affiliated scholar of the Brazil LAB at Princeton University. Originally from San Francisco, she now lives in Brooklyn and teaches translation at Columbia University.
Kimi Traube’s short fiction and translations have appeared in BOMB Magazine, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. She is the translator of Juan Villoro’s The Guilty. She lives in Mexico. Her new translation of Cervantes' classic, Don Quixote, is forthcoming from Liveright Publishing.
Megan McDowell has translated works by Samanta Schweblin, Alejandro Zambra, Mariana Enriquez, and Lina Meruane, among many other acclaimed Spanish-language authors. Her translations have won the National Book Award for Translated Literature, the Premio Valle-Inclán, and three O. Henry Prizes, and have been nominated four times for the International Booker Prize. In 2020, she received an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Originally from Richmond, Kentucky, she lives in Santiago, Chile.
Each ticket includes two small dishes inspired by the passages and one complimentary drink. Additional drinks will be available for purchase. Seating is communal and first-come, so if you have a group be sure to get there early to save a spot!
We do have a handful of seats reserved for sliding-scale admission to keep these events as financially accessible as possible. Please let us know if this ticket price is prohibitive for you and we’ll find a way to get you a seat at the table. These sliding scale seats are limited, so please be thoughtful about your resources and needs when making a request.
For more information on physical accessibility at Little Egg or any other questions, please write us at biscuits@tablesofcontents.org.
We can accommodate gluten-free and vegetarian diets with advance notice. If you have other restrictions or aversions you are of course still encouraged to attend, you just may not be able to partake in every course. Please be sure to notify us of any serious allergies in advance and remind us at the event.
Doors will open at 6:40 so feel free to come a few minutes early to grab a drink and get settled. See you all November 9th at Little Egg!
