TOC Reading Series: Brahme! Aziz Amna! Yu!

Readers of Content, ​ We're back from our summer break and thrilled to start the fall season with a reading at one of our favorite spots in the city - The Long Island Bar! We'll be joined by Vincent Yu, Alexa Brahme, and Dur e Aziz Amna, reading from their lauded recent novels ​ Alexa Brahme is an author based in Brooklyn, NY. She studied creative writing at Vanderbilt University and received her MFA in Fiction from The New School. Her short fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, the Robert J. Dau PEN Award, and Best of the Net. GOOD NEWS is her debut novel. Vincent Yu is a sales manager at W.W. Norton/Liveright and the winner of the 2021 Ashley Bourne Prize for fiction from Ploughshares. Seek Immediate Shelter is his debut novel. His work has been published in Prairie Schooner, StoryQuarterly, Ninth Letter, Able Muse, and elsewhere. He lives in Brooklyn. Dur e Aziz Amna is the author of A Splintering, winner of the Stanfords Prize for Fiction and a BBC Book Club pick. Her previous novel, American Fever, won the South Asian Book Award and the APALA Award for Literature. Her work also appears in the New York Times, Financial Times, and Al Jazeera, among others. She was selected as Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2022 and has won the Salam Prize and the Financial Times / Bodley Head Essay Prize. ​ ​ Each ticket includes three small dishes inspired by the passages and one complimentary drink. Additional drinks will be available for purchase. ​ Our friends Sammi and Olivia of Cocktails in Color will be mixing up cocktails inspired by our three authors' books, so you'll want to make room for a couple! And our friends at Books are Magic will be with us selling books, so come ready to pick up a few copies. ​ We do have a handful of seats reserved for sliding-scale admission to keep these events as financially accessible as possible. Please let us know if this ticket price is prohibitive for you and we’ll find a way to get you a seat at the table.
