Arts from Japan opens its inaugural season with an extraordinary evening of sound and story. Singer-songwriter and pianist Akiko Yano joins Tsugaru-shamisen virtuoso Hiromitsu Agatsuma for a San Francisco debut performance drawn from their acclaimed 2020 album, "Asteroid and Butterfly." Together they reimagine traditional Japanese folk songs (min’yo) through jazz, pop, and improvisation, pairing Yano's genre-defying piano and vocals with Agatsuma's blistering shamisen technique. Don't miss this Opening Night Flagship Recital at the Barbro Osher Recital Hall. It promises to be an intimate, once-in-a-lifetime meeting of two Japanese music legends.
