Word for Word’s next Off the Page Reading is “Cry for Me” and “Dance of the Infidels” written by William Melvin Kelley and Alston Anderson and directed by Rotimi Agbabiaka. In William Melvin Kelley’s “Cry for Me,” Wallace Bedlow, a talented two-guitar folk musician from the rural south visits family in New York City only to discover someone singing his song in a Manhattan cafe. Bedlow shows him how it’s done and becomes an overnight music sensation not familiar or comfortable with this new found fame. In Alston Anderson’s “Dance of the Infidels,” a young jazz devotee meets a fellow record collector over a shared love of Bird and Dizzy, and follows him from a small hometown cafe all the way to the clubs of Harlem. What starts as a friendship built on music becomes a story about loyalty, dependency, and how far you’ll go for friendship. Off the Page readings are presented to the public for free, with a suggested donation of $25. 🎟️FREE RSVP ci.ovationtix.com/34231/production/1282293 📅7pm , July 27 📍Z Below
